My name is Britta Thygesen, and I love dogs. Originally from Denmark, I am currently a full-time certified dog trainer in California. My passion for dogs started at a very young age, and I have to admit that I enjoy what I do for a living. With over eight years’ experience in dog training, I recently decided to blog and share practical and helpful insights into caring and living with dogs.

I have two dogs: Max, a golden retriever, and Dexter, a German shepherd. I have bought them a couple of toys, and in the process, I realized that it is not easy to identify the best indestructible dog toys in a market that has so many different brands and models. Therefore, I have written this comprehensive review for your benefit. This review considers the toys from various manufacturers with details on how to choose the best model. I will also include a few toys that my dogs love.

11 Best Indestructible Dog Toys Reviewed

Choosing an indestructible dog toy is an art of sorts. You have to get the perfect balance between durability and functionality. What does the latter mean? Each toy that you buy for your dog helps him develop different functionality. From hand to eye coordination to object permanence, there is plenty for dogs to learn through toys. An ideal indestructible toy should have at least one function. Here is a list of 11 toys that I recommend to every dog owner.

1. Best Choice: Kong Extreme Dog Toys

Do you have a dog that chews through absolutely everything? My list starts with one of the best indestructible dog chew toys. The Kong Extreme dog toy is made of tough rubber to withstand power chewing from any dog breed. This means that you will get a lot of use out of it before it gives in to the incessant chewing from your dog.

This toy is a great teether for dogs having teething pain. Gnawing on it would provide much relief. It comes in five sizes: small, medium, large, extra-large, and extra-extra-large. The size variations make it suitable for all dog breeds regardless of size. The Kong brand also caters for a different type of chewers. In case your dog is not a power chewer, you can buy toys from the same brand for regular chewers.

The design of Kong indestructible dog toys allows you to stuff them with yummy treats such as peanut butter for your dog to lick every time it finds a toy during a game of catch. Although this toy gets messy and requires constant cleaning, the length of time it can entertain your dog makes it all worth it. To make your game last longer, freeze the treat so that it melts gradually as you play. The Kong brand makes complimentary items for this purpose. They make pre-packed treats for stuffing the toy and a sealer that allows you to lock in the treat and make it more challenging for your dog to get.

Positives
  • Comes in different sizes
  • Has hole for stuffing treats
  • Made of strong, durable rubber that can withstand power chewing
Negatives
  • Relatively expensive
  • Not easy to clean

2. Chuckit! Ultra Ball

If you are looking for the virtually indestructible ball dog toy, the Chuckit, Ultra Ball may be the best for you. This bright orange ball is made of rubber and can bounce higher than most. Even a dog with the strongest jaws can hardly bite off the outer casing.

Apart from its sturdiness, this indestructible dog toy ball comes in sizes, which allows you to pick the best fit for your pet. Its bright color makes it perfect for a game of catch, and together with its ability to float on water, there is no limit to the games you can play with this ball.

At the same time, its design may pose a danger to some dogs. Its seal has a plug that may come of after intense chewing. This leaves the ball with a dangerous hole that can suction in your dog’s tongue, mainly if you do not supervise your dog during playtime. I advise that anyone buying this ball checks it often to see whether the plug has come out.

Positives
  • Brightly colored
  • Very bouncy
  • Floats on water
Negatives
  • Has plug that might come of leaving a dangerous hole

3. Pacific Pups Products Indestructible Rope Toys for Dogs

Coming in carrot shapes, giraffe shapes and multiple knots, the Pacific Pups rope toys are a must-have for any dog owner who wants to give the dog a challenge during playtime. Dogs who cannot stop gnawing on furniture find great relief in these rope toys made of similar fabric like the four paws indestructible dog toys. The toys can be used as teethers and flossers to clean the tiny spaces between dogs’ teeth.

What stands out the most about these toys is how durable they are. It would take a lot of chewing to get through just one rope toy. Furthermore, by buying these toys, you play an essential role in rescuing dogs that need a home. The manufacturers of this toy rescue dogs that have been neglected and mistreated, and then they use money from the sale of their products to give these dogs new homes. If you are passionate about such a cause, you may want to buy one of these indestructible dog chew toys.

The only issue I have with these sturdy toys is the mess they can create if a power chewer rips through one of them. Their fabric falls out in chunks and is very messy. These chunks are a choking hazard. Should your pet swallow a chunk of the fabric, you might even end up in emergency surgery because they may not be able to pass it out through the stool. I would advise anyone who buys these toys to let their dog play with them only under supervision.

Positives
  • Perfect for cleaning dog teeth
  • Sold for a good cause
Negatives
  • Messy cleanup when destroyed
  • Maybe a choking hazard

4. Elk Antler Chew from Chipper Critters

I had to include at least one toy that is made of natural, non-plastic material. Unbelievably, these toys are made from real elk antlers. You must be wondering whether it is cruel to get elk antlers just for making toys. However, it is essential to note that elks shed their antlers and regrow them quite often. No animals are harmed in the manufacture of these toys.

It may not be as colorful as other toys, but it is the closest some dog owners get to natural toys for their dogs. It also comes in sizes so that you pick the best fit for your dog.

Positives
  • Natural, nontoxic material
  • Withstands strong chewing
Negatives
  • Has dull color

5. West Paw Indestructible Dog Toys

Are you in need of easy to clean indestructible dog toys for chewers? Being a dog owner comes with its fair set of demands without adding toy cleaning to the list. I recommend the West Paw zogoflex hurley chew toy to those who would prefer to have a quick cleanup process after the dog has played with it. After use, you can throw it into the dishwasher for quick cleaning.

This toy is shaped like a bone and made of light rubber that allows it to float on water. It does not flake as the exterior is smooth with no fabric that would flake. Dogs love fetching it, especially when playing by the river or lake. Zogoflex toys are approved by the FDA, making them non-toxic and safe for your pet. Another benefit of these toys is their bright colors, which make them more visible.

On the other side, these toys may not be as durable as the manufacturers claim. The only reason I am saying this is that their material is not fit for power chewers and big dogs that play rough. Any dog with a strong jaw will destroy the bone within a day. They are more suitable for smaller ones. Despite this, I still recommend this toy as it is of good quality compared to most in the market.

Positives
  • Dishwasher safe therefore easy to clean
  • Brightly colored and very visible
  • Nontoxic, FDA approved
Negatives
  • May be destroyed by big dogs with strong jaws

6. Tuffy Indestructible Dog Toys

Not all dogs prefer rubber toys. Some need a tough toy made of fabric to pique their curiosity. The Tuff ultimate ring is a dual-purpose toy. It’s not only made of fabric but also squeaky. Those looking for indestructible squeaky dog toys will love this one.

The thing about fabric dog toys is that not many dogs can use them without supervision. There is always that fear that the dog may bite off a chunk of fabric and ingest it. A squeaky toy is also risky because if opened, the dog will swallow the squeaky bit. Well, no one should worry about these issues when buying the Tuff Ultimate Ring. Why?

This toy is made of multiple layers for reinforcement. It is not easy for a dog to rip it open. As much as it has a soft fleece outer layer, this toy has four additional layers that reinforce it. The Tuffy brand is associated with soft toys and has perfected the art of making them safe for even the toughest chewers. No wonder that I have chosen this as the best indestructible squeaky dog toy. They hide the squeakers in material within the toy, making it that much harder for your dog to reach them if they manage to open up the fabric. Furthermore, they use several rows of stitches for extra safety. The Tuffy tops the list of indestructible plush dog toys.

The only downside to this toy is that if your dog chews through it and rip it open, the shredded inner stuffing is a pain to clean. No vacuum cleaner can clean it without getting clogged. Other than this, a soft toy is a must-have for owners who need a squeaky dog toy indestructible.

Positives
  • Soft and plush
  • Reinforced with several rows of stitches making it almost indestructible
  • Squeaky
Negatives
  • Has messy stuffing that is difficult to clean up

7. Goughnuts Guaranteed Indestructible Dog Toy

When you have bought countless toys for a dog that destroys each one, you start looking for toys that come with a guarantee. You have probably lost faith in most brands and need one whose manufacturer believes is so indestructible that they are willing to refund your money if you prove them wrong. Well, the Goughnuts toy is the right one for such an experiment.

According to the manufacturers of this doughnut-shaped toy, it is virtually indestructible. They guarantee you a replacement for any toy chewed through to the red inner layer. You must be wondering, what is so good about these ring toys anyway? Apart from their tough exterior, they are made of a material that floats on water. This makes them great for dogs that love the outdoors. They are also one of the best indestructible dog toys for chewers who need some relief during teething.

By now, you must have figured out that no toy is perfect. The Goughnuts can have a strange taste at times. This is very rare, but it happens to a few buyers. Of course, no dog would love a strange tasting toy. However, because such instances are rare, I still recommend this toy for those who are at their wits end when it comes to getting durable toys.

Positives
  • Tough
  • Floats on water
  • Unique shape
Negatives
  • Might have a strange taste at first

8. Kong Wobbler Treat Dispensing Dog Toy

It is often hard to find a solution for poor feeders, overweight dogs, or quick eaters. Imagine an interactive toy that can be used during playtime to moderate how many snacks your dog has access to. Well, this toy from the Kong brand does precisely that. Its unique functionality makes it one of the most popular toys for those who are struggling to instill proper feeding habits in their pets.

Its model is similar to the Kong extreme that I have already reviewed. However, instead of a wide opening at one end, it has a tiny hole on the side. This is where snacks fall out as the dog plays. The toy wobbles, bounces, and rolls when a dog plays with it. By dispensing toys in bits, it not only discourages quick eating but also holds the dog’s attention for hours as he tries to figure out where the treats are coming from. As an added advantage, the Kong Wobbler is dishwasher safe. Cleaning up after your dog should not be much of a hustle.

The only downside to buying this toy is its big sizing. The small size, for example, maybe a bit too big for a 17lb dog to play with. One must be very careful when selecting the sizes. It is advisable to follow the sizing in the product description before making a purchase.

Positives
  • Great for dispensing treats
  • Dishwasher safe therefore easy to clean
Negatives
  • Bigger than it looks at pictures

9. Oneisall Dog Toy for Aggressive Chewers

The Oneisall is the first bone-shaped toy on my list. This toy is very similar to a bone. The joints at each end even have grooves similar to a real bone. Why I mention, this similarity is because these grooves are excellent at cleaning dogs’ teeth. This toy functions as a plaything, teether, and tooth cleanser.

What makes this toy unique is that its bacon flavor. Imagine how good it smells. I am yet to meet a dog that does not like the smell of bacon. Every dog would love this toy. In terms of durability, it is made of very strong food-grade nylon. It can last at least six months, even with the strongest power chewer playing with it daily.

The only doubt I have about this toy is concerned with FDA approval. Considering that it is made of nylon, having FDA approval would go a long way in increasing consumer confidence. However, this does not mean the toy is toxic as there have been zero complaints so far from thousands of customers who have bought it for their dogs.

Positives
  • Great shape for cleaning teeth
  • Has pleasant bacon flavor
  • Brightly colored
Negatives
  • Lacks FDA approval

10. Wobble Wag Giggle Ball

Most indestructible dog toys reviews cannot leave this fun little ball out of their lists. If your pet needs something that will hold his attention for hours, this is perfect. At every nudge, this ball produces some funny giggles that will catch your dog’s attention.

Another unique feature these balls have bites pockets. They allow your dog to grip the ball effortlessly. You can buy this ball for outdoor play, as it is brightly colored and very bouncy.

There have been complaints on the durability of this ball. Power chewers bite of chunks in less than 20 minutes. Know how hard your dog bites and chews before buying this ball to avoid such incidents.

Positives
  • Interactive toy
  • Brightly colored
Negatives
  • May not withstand aggressive chewing

11. Hueter Toledo – The Virtually Indestructible Ball Dog Toy

This is one of the hardest balls I have reviewed in this list. It is made from high-density plastic that is extremely hard for even the strongest chewers to break. With this ball, there is a good chance you will use it for a long time.

Because of how strong its material is, I would only recommend this ball for outdoor use. Your dog could easily break furniture while playing with it – that is how hard the ball is. I can advise anyone to buy a size that is a bit bigger so that instead of fitting it into their mouths, dogs can roll around and run after it. I said it because it may not be the best chew toy and your dog would get bored with just chewing it.

Positives
  • Very tough material
  • Brightly colored
Negatives
  • Cannot be used for indoor play as it may break valuable household items
